The School of Medicine encompasses vital and competitive specialties that evolve with the latest advances in medical technology. We provide training at world-renowned training institutions, as well as a number of excellent district general hospitals. We have three Academic Health Science Centres: UCL Partners, Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre and King’s Health Partners. The primary aim of AHSCs is to speed up the process of translating developments in research into benefits for patients. Working with a diverse healthcare population across London, trainees will treat a cross-range of patients and medical conditions in urban communities.
There are structured GIM training programmes across the different London regions each with varied programmes of relevant simulation training for GIM trainees. There are plenty of opportunities for OOPs focussing on development of management and leadership or education and training portfolios.
London has a high proportion of academic trainees and we are strongly supportive of trainees seeking to go out of programme to undertake research or other experience that will enhance the quality of their training.
The School of Medicine runs the London Parents and Doctors Network, a programme to support people returning to practice from either periods of statutory leave or OOPs.
We run annual school conferences and we support innovative pilot training opportunities within the different specialties.
We provide higher specialty training in all but 2 of the subspecialties of medicine so there is ample opportunity to work in centres of excellence which deliver this training that cannot be accessed anywhere else in the country. Also this diverse range of specialties provides access to cross specialty working and gaining experience at the interfaces of care.
