The North East covers a large geographical area extending across Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Teesside and into North Yorkshire at its most Southern point. With a strong track record of some of the highest NHS performance and outstanding training opportunities, we believe our NHS trusts are the very best place in the country to undertake your medical training.

We have eight NHS hospital trusts, two mental health trusts and one ambulance trust. With around 100,000 staff, serving a diverse population of three million people in completely contrasting environments, our NHS covers some of the most interesting places to work in the country.

Find out more about each of the Trusts in our region here.

In the north east and north Cumbria, all Foundation, GP and Specialty doctors in training have a single Lead Employer model meaning you remain with the same employer throughout the entirety of your training. Find out more here.
